About the Gallery
Gippsland Art Gallery was established in 1965. In 1995, on its 30th anniversary, the Gallery relocated to the current premises at Wellington Shire's Port of Sale Civic Centre. Gippsland Art Gallery is principally funded by the Wellington Shire Council with assistance from the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria, a Division of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Exhibitions
Gippsland Art Gallery presents a diverse exhibition program of contemporary and traditional artworks by local, national and international artists. The Gallery features three exhibition spaces and a sculpture courtyard.
Collection
The Gallery's permanent collection focuses on artworks related to or produced in Gippsland, and works by Australian artists with themes that relate to land and the natural environment. The collection consists of paintings, works on paper, ceramics, sculpture, textiles, woodwork and metalwork, and includes artists of both national and international significance. The Gallery is also the custodian of the Victoria State Craft Collection - Wood Collection and works from the Construction and Building Industry (CBUS) Superannuation Collection. All works from the permanent collection are in storage, unless periodically displayed.
Gallery Shop
The Gallery Shop stocks jewellery, ceramics, glassware and other unique merchandise by established and emerging designer-makers. The shop also has a wide range of cards and books on art and art history.
Relish Cafe
Relish @ the Gallery is a licenced cafe which offers light refreshments and delicious lunch and dinner menus. Seating is available indoors with views over the Port of Sale, or outdoors in a choice of two courtyard areas. For bookings, contact Relish @ the Gallery on 03 51 44 5044
