Discover Briagolong

Unwind in the foothills... Briagolong is a charming historic town with a warm welcome and lots to see and do.

Nestled at the base of the Great Divide, Briagolong offers small town charm with diverse attractions including a guided walk of historic sites and buildings in the town with signs indicating buildings of interest such as the 1874 Mechanics Institute, the 1880 Briagolong Hotel and 1873 Primary School.  

Briagolong provides easy access to the Gippsland High Country, Freestone Creek Gorge and the Blue Pool.

Discover Maffra

Maffra today is the hub of the rich Macalister dairying, agricultural, pastoral and irrigation district. While home to one of the most modern milk processing plants in Australia, Maffra still retains its main street charm and throughout the town a visual attractiveness reminiscent of earlier times.  Maffra has a proud sporting tradition with a wide range of excellent facilities catering for many popular pursuits.

Things to do include a Gem and Mineral display at old court house, Sugar Beet Museum, Macalister River Park, Macalister Swamp reserve, Gippsland Vehicle Collection, Cycling, 4WD and bushwalking.

The Discover Port Albert brochure provides visitor information about Gippsland's first Port and gateway to the Gippsland Goldfields.  Steeped in maritime history, Port Albert is a great destination for a daytrip or weekend. Brochure lists accommodation and things to see and do in the town.

Discover Seaspray

Discover Seaspray, a small coastal town situated towards the southern end of the pristine Ninety Mile Beach, 32 kilometres south of Sale.

The town's caravan park stretches along the entire length of Foreshore Road, nestled beside sand dunes with grassy sites lined by Norfolk Pine trees.  The Ninety Mile Beach offers what appears to be a never ending stretch of blue ocean and vast white sands.  Seaspray is known for its great fishing and swimming beach.

Discover the Port of Sale

The Discover the Port of Sale brochure provides a detailed map of the Port precinct, located in the middle of Sale.  The Port precinct includes full boating facilities as well as restaurants, art gallery, entertainment centre, cafe's, wine bar as well as museums and accommodation and historic/antique precints nearby.

The Port also boasts BBQ's and toilets and an extensive walking trail.

Discover Tarra Bulga

The Discover Tarra Bulga brochure details the visitor experiences and accommodation options available in the Tarra Valley, a delightful valley on route to the Tarra-Bulga National Park from Yarram.  The Valley is home to deligtful shaded tree fern glades, the cool Tarra River, the Tarra Falls and the Tarra Valley picnic grounds located within the National Park.

Lake Guthridge Parklands

Major features of the parklands include the many remaining historic trees planted in the late 1800’s as well as remnant indigenous Redgums some dating back 300 years. There are over four kilometres of trails to enjoy incorporating an Indigenous Art Trail around Lake Guyatt. As well as the abundance of birdlife visiting the parklands there is a contemporary fauna enclosure set into a landscaped natural environment with excellent viewing opportunities.

Combined with the Sensory Gardens, the Lake Guthridge Parkland precinct provides a delightful setting for enjoying a leisurely few hours.

River Heritage & Wetlands Trail

This heritage trail offers a kaleidoscope of riverine and wetlands scenery in addition to heritage places, all marked with interpretive plaques.  The trail begins at the Wellington Visitor Information Centre and extends as far south as the celebrated Swing Bridge at the junction of the Thomson and Latrobe rivers.  The return journey, if you so choose, takes in Sale’s beautiful lakes – Guyatt and Guthridge, as well as the historic Powder Magazine.

The Duff Sawmill Heritage Trail brochure is a partnership brochure produced with the Balook & District Residents Asscn and Grand Ridge Plantations, a major forestry company in the region.  The brochure details the Duff Sawmill Heritage Trail near Balook, located high in the Strzlecki ranges and host town for the Tarra-Bulga National Park visitor centre.

Discover the Historic Swing Bridge

The Discover the Historic Swing Bridge brochure details the history of the National Trust Classified Swing Bridge located at the junction of the Thomson and Latrobe Rivers downstream from Sale.  The Bridge has recently been restored and opens for visitors on weekends.  For details regarding opening hours contact the Wellington Visitor Information Centre - Sale on 1800 677 520. A short Youtube film is also located on this website showing the operation of the bridge.

The bridge is accessible for viewing 7 days.

Wellington Shire Heritage Network

Gippsland’s heritage is showcased in museums, collections and archives across the Wellington Shire, from the maritime treasures at Port Albert to the high country gold tales at Dargo.

Our military, motoring, agricultural, social and domestic heritage is collected, interpreted and exhibited by the many groups who are custodians of these important collections.  The Wellington Shire Heritage Network was established in 2009 to represent the interests of Heritage Groups within Wellington Shire.

Historic Boisdale Township

The Boisdale Pastoral Run was taken up for Lachlan Macalister in 1842 by Angus McMillan, who settled at Bushy Park. It transferred to the Foster family in 1850. This run consisted of approximately 10,000 acres and was utilized as grazing land.

Port of Sale Heritage Cruises

Ideal for travellers, families, school groups, birdwatchers, history buffs, boat lovers and those who simply enjoy relaxing on the water. Cruises depart twice daily for 1.5 hours, with pick up and set down at the Port of Sale. Parking is available. Drinks and light refreshments can be purchased on board.
